I have been running into .wps files even more frequently now several years after they were discontinued by Microsoft in 2006.
The problem is that most versions of Microsoft Word do not open this file. OpenOffice.org does not open this file, and it becomes a problem when people want to open it or read it. I have found two solutions to let you open a .wps file.
- Use the MS Word 2007 Veiwer. This is a free program that will open it up. (Will MS Word 2007 open it up? unknown at this time) This program will not allow you to edit it, but it will allow you to copy and past it into another program.
- Use the MS Works 6-9 File Converter. A free extension for MS Word that will allow it to open and edit this outdated file extension.
